Treatment of Ance Scars & Pits by Co2 Laser:
The best treatment for most patients with acne scarring is the Fractional CO2 laser. Examples of this laser include the Fraxel Re:pair, the MiXto laser, the TotalFX and the Matrix CO2. These "fractional" lasers treat only a "fraction" of the skin's surface during the treatment, leaving the neighboring tissue intact for faster healing.
The types of acne scars.
There are different kinds of acne scars: ice pick, atrophic, and hypertrophic. Ice pick scars are deep pitted scars with steep edges. Atrophic scars are pitted but have smooth borders and are not as deep. Hypertrophic scars, more common on the back and chest, are thick, lumpy scars that sit above the surface of the skin.
What is the best treatment for acne scars?
The most safe and effective treatment for the majority of patients with acne scars is the Fractional CO2 Laser. This laser is a new, so called "fractional" laser. This means that the laser works by resurfacing only a "fraction" of the skin at a time, leaving the surrounding area intact for faster healing. This vastly reduces the incidence of side effects and has given us the ability to treat all skin types.
How does the Fractional CO2 laser work?
The CO2 fractional laser pokes tiny microscopic holes in the skin down past the epidermis and into the dermis. These holes cause new collagen to be generated which fills in the acne scars and creates rejuvenated smoother skin.
Wrinkles Reduction With CO2 Laser:
Fractional CO2 treatment removes the layers of skin in fractionated method i.e. removing a column of skin, the skin surrounding the each column is left intact to help in healing. It has the ability to ablate microscopic zones of tissue deep within the dermis as well as tissue on the skin's surface. This treatment works on the principle of fractional photo-thermolysis.
Strech Marks Reduction With CO2 Laser:
Fractional CO2 laser that is more aggressive and appropriate for white stretch marks that have been present for more than a year. This laser is most commonly utilized for skin resurfacing of the face but recently has been shown to cause great improvement in stretch marks. Fractional CO2 laser makes small micropunctures in the skin in a grid like pattern leaving bridges of healthy skin in between. The procedure stimulates collagen production and tightens the skin. This in turn causes the stretch marks to contract and become smaller. Optimal results are usually seen after 2 to 3 treatments spaced 3 to 6 months apart. The procedure takes approximately one hour depending on the area being treated.
Treatment of Burn Marks With CO2 Laser:
There have been several case reports of improvement in the appearance of mature burn scars following treatment with fractional CO2 lasers.
Trauma scars & Surgical Scars reduction by CO2 Laser:
The Fractional CO2 and Fraxel lasers are fractional laser treatment used for treating sun spots, fine lines, stretch marks, acne scarring, surgical scarring and traumatic scarring.
